Mike Ellis
2011 8th Place Yukon Quest Finisher
Fastest Purebred Siberian Team Record Holder
2011 Veterinarians Choice Award
2011 Sportsmanship Award
Mushing since 1993, Mike Ellis started his 'dog career' as a handler in New Hampshire. He ran several races that winter, including Marmora and Sandwich, and was hooked. In 1997 he married Sue, and they soon began Team Tsuga Siberians, named for the hemlock grove their first litter was born under in 1998. They raced in New England through the 2007 season, but always thought their team was just getting warmed-up by the finish line. Always looking for a longer tougher race, in 2008 Mike raced his first 1000-mile Yukon Quest, the longest and toughest of all. In 2009, Mike and Sue relocated Team Tsuga from Rumney, NH to Two Rivers, Alaska and the following winter, Mike finished the Quest in a record-setting 10 days, 20 hours, 29 minutes, over a full day faster than any registered team has ever run 1000 miles. Along the way, Team Tsuga has earned numerous Vet's Choice Awards, including at the Wilderness 100, GinGin 200, Copper Basin 300, Two Rivers 200, and most recently at Mike's 8th place finish in the 2011 Yukon Quest, where he was also honored to share in the Sportsmanship Award. Their team is well-known from New England to Alaska for it's happy, healthy, well-trained Siberian Huskies that compete on the toughest race trails in the world.

Rene began his mushing career more than 30 years ago as a handler and then as an expedition guide working in the family business, Chocpaw Expeditions. With 300+ dogs in the kennel he developed exceptional skills in training and running dogs. 12 years ago Rene took his bush team on the road and ran three races in Ontario finishing top 3 in all. In the last 10 years he has dominated the Ontario mid distance races entering two teams and finishing 1st and 2nd in most races. He has raced and won in Quebec, Michigan, New Hamshire and Maine. He is known for running a superbly conditioned and well-disciplined team. Along the way he has won awards and recognition for dog care as well. Rene's goal from the outset was to field a team capable of speed but also with the toughness to compete in longer distances. His record indicates he has done that. His goal is to take his team into the Yukon to compete in the Yukon Quest and the Iditarod.
