For the Rookie
The Polyethylene Rope is hollow braid, the fid is the tool you use to make knots in the rope to create loops or attach snaps. The Polyethylene we sell is 16 strand, we prefer it because it is the strongest. It comes in different diameters because mushers have preferences as to what size they want to use for their ganglines. The typical mainline portion of a gangline is 3/8", the tuglines and necklines are typically 3/16" or 1/4" and the 1/2" is used a lot for snublines and snow hook lines.
A snubline is how you fasten your sled or wheeled rig to a stationary object while you are hooking up your dogs to the gangline and the snow hook is what you use as an emergency brake so to speak when you want to stop and hold the team on the snow while running with a sled.
